Why is my vape flashing and not working? What it means

A flashing vape that will not fire is its protection circuit talking. The causes, the fixes, and Geekvape's and Vaporesso's own flash codes.

By Staff, Pod & Coil

A vape that flashes and will not fire is its protection circuit refusing to: usually a flat battery, then a puff held too long, a short after a drop or water, or a stuck puff sensor. On a refillable pod kit, add a pod or coil it cannot detect, or heat. The maker’s flash codes say which.

This guide rests on manufacturer pages this desk read on 8 October 2026: Innokin’s guide, Geekvape’s FAQ and Vaporesso’s FAQ.

“Named by” is which ranked page raises the cause, in the text read: Innokin (I), Vapor Authority (V), VapeKit UK (K); all three write about disposables only.

If auto-firing will not stop, Innokin says to move it somewhere fire-safe, let the battery die and recycle it.

What do the flash counts mean on a pod kit?

Geekvape’s FAQ, for a device that will not fire: three red flashes, no atomizer connected; five, battery too low. Eight: remove the pod and fire again. Three flashes then means low resistance, so change the coil; eight again means clean the connector. A red light flashing for 10 seconds means the temperature is too high.

Vaporesso’s FAQ says a red LED, or three or five flashes, means low battery, and sends you to each device’s manual for the rest. Three flashes is no pod on a Geekvape and a flat cell on a Vaporesso. Check your own manual; our XLIM Pro 3 user manual shows what one maker documents.

Why won’t it charge after flashing?

Vaporesso says a charger that cannot output 5V will not charge it, and a cell left flat for long can over-discharge and may not recover after 10-15 minutes on charge. See our USB-C charging piece.

Questions readers ask

Why is my vape blinking and not hitting?

The circuit has refused to fire. Innokin lists four reasons on a disposable: a dead battery, by far the most common, a tripped puff limiter, a critical error such as a short circuit, and auto-firing. Pod kits add an undetected pod or coil and over-temperature.

How do you fix a blinking disposable vape?

Charge it if it has a port; Innokin says one without a port is not rechargeable and should be replaced. If it blinks mid-draw, take shorter puffs. If it started after a drop or water, Innokin says it may be damaged and will most likely need replacing.

Why is my vape not working at all?

Vaporesso’s checklist: is the fire button stuck, is the pod seated, are the electrodes on pod and device clean, does a charge revive it. It adds that a drop, or water inside, can damage the internals so that the device will not power on.

This hardware is used with nicotine-containing e-liquid, and nicotine is an addictive chemical. It is for adults of legal purchase age only: 21+ in the United States, 18+ in most other markets.
